Overall Difficulty:
The 36 and 58 milers incorporate Cobb Hill. Cobb Hill is taxing even for
the advanced cyclist. Please do not fret if you have to walk Cobb Hill.
There is no shame in walking. The 58 mile route is a demanding route which
includes Cobb Hill and two additional major hills. The 64 and 39 milers
include the challenging Driprock climb. In the 64 mile route - the first 40
miles are hilly and the last 20 miles are fairly flat. The 38 miler is uber
flat for Irvine's standards and can be shortened to 30 miles if desired.
Since some of us will be racing the 5K and due to the terrain the paces for
most all routes will be more "relaxed" and the attitude will be dialed
to "more enjoyable". However, if you wish to hammer and do intervals, you
are welcome. Pace is based on effort and terrain. We will offer a variety
of terrain (fairly flat to extremely steep / hilly) and paces (BC, B, and
AB/A)
Details:
We hope you will join us for the Fungus 5K and/or cycling throughout
beautiful Estill County on Saturday, April 27, 2019. The runs (5k starts at
9:00 am) and the ride (starts at 10:30 am) near the church. (Please see
information about the Fungus 5K at
http://www.mountainmushroomfestival.org/event.html
.) After strolling,
jogging, or dashing through the 5K, we will transition to biking gear. If
you do not wish to complete the 5K - no problem, please still come and ride.
Announcements will begin at 10:20 AM in the public parking lot and we hope
to ride at 10:30 AM. There will be a store stop on the longer
routes (64 and 58 milers) and a cooler of goodies on the shorter routes.
Moreover, tasty snacks and cold drinks will be provided before, during, and
after the ride by the BCC's Social Committee. (Thanks so much BCC Social
Committee for your generosity!)
We will offer five super routes from which you can choose. Three (of the
five) routes are new this year. If you wish to see lovely scenery and drop
by the historical Fitchburg Furnace - the 58, 38, and 36 mile routes are
wonderful picks. If you long to tackle the infamous Cobb Hill and see other
intriguing sites - the 58 and 36 mile routes are great choices. If you
crave to slay Drip Rock and view awesome countryside the 64 and 39 routes
are excellent selections. All routes give an opportunity to stop by The
Twin for a Cherry Ale-8 and a smile at the end!
(

) Plus, after the ride, you can check out
the many demonstrations, food vendors, shows, contests, booths, dancing,
music, and take a sack of Morels home from the 29th Mountain Mushroom
Festival!
