Education Reimbursement

  1. Any BCC member may apply for LCI training reimbursement or USA Coaching Certification reimbursement of up to $100 (fulfilling the prerequisites to qualify for LCI training shall be the responsibility of the member).
  2. Members must apply for reimbursement prior to obtaining certification.  Application for funding shall be submitted by May 15th for consideration in June, and by October 15th for consideration in November.
  3. Members will be notified that they have been provisionally approved for reimbursement, and shall have one year from approval to obtain certification and meet the requirements for reimbursement. At the time of approval, funds shall be set aside for each member approved for reimbursement.
  4. To qualify for reimbursement a member shall:
    1. Obtain LCI or USA Cycling certification; and
    2. Teach classes or workshops,  or lead official BCC rides meeting the following requirements:
      1. The class or workshop shall be a specific cycling education class or workshop either for BCC members or other community groups.  A workshop is an educational activity of 4 or more hours in length.  A class is an educational activity of 1 to less than 4 hours in length.
      2. The BCC ride shall be published on the BCC calendar, and the published information shall include an educational component of at least ½ hour before the ride.
    3. Certified members may team up to teach classes or workshops, or to lead rides and both instructors/leaders may receive full credit for conducting the class or workshop, or leading the ride.
    4. Reimbursement shall be available at $25 per ride or class, or $50 per workshop taught within the one year period, with a maximum reimbursement of $100 per approved member.
  5. The approved member shall submit documentation for reimbursement upon the earlier of:
    1. The member teaching or leading a sufficient number of rides, classes or workshops to qualify him or her for full reimbursement; or
    2. The expiration of one year from date of approval.
    3. Documentation submitted for classes and workshops shall include the title of the class or workshop, the date and time the class or workshop was offered, the organization for which the class or workshop was provided, the number of participants and the length of the class or workshop.
  6. Recertifications – Any member who obtains certification under either USA cycling or as a LCI may be reimbursed for the cost of continuing certification or recertification after payment of the recertification cost by continuing to meet the above criteria and submitting documentation of proof of payment for recertification, as well as proof that classes or workshops were taught or rides led as set forth above. Maximum reimbursement available for recertification shall be the cost of obtaining the recertification.
