BCC Meeting minutes 6/10/09
Members present: Peggy Littrell, Sandy Duff, Dwayne Edwards, Mike Bagley, Jaime Bagley, Keith Batchelor, Griff Baute, Doug Wagner, Malcolm Barrett
Minutes from last month approved
Terri Akers, wife of Dean Akers, passed away on Tuesday, 6/9/09.
National Report- UK reports that cycling is safer in a group, with reductions in cycling casualties.
Treasurers Report- Total income $106,000 for the year, total profits for the club year to date $12,000.
Reports-
Race- from Bena Halecky, Skirt rides are proceeding well, divided into 2 groups, Hege Ravdal and Sheri Parker are helping as well.
Ride- 188 rides, 1574 riders for an average of 8.4 riders per ride.
71 rides posted in May, 73 rides posted in June, 60 posted in July.
Keith had 15 people for the Ride of Silence.
Mike discussed establishing a member discount program with Pedal the Planet.
Mike would like to issue a standard emergency kit to ride leaders who have led at least 12 rides in the season.
Motion to issue the kit was passed unanimously.
Nominating- Discussed adding chairs for merchandise and marketing. Discussed the term limits in the by laws, Doug will speak with Bill Fortune who will form a by laws committee, to study the issue.
Events-
HH- After action meeting was held last week. Grossed $101,000 total, net profit $24,000. Thank you notes have been sent to all entities that were sent checks. More will be sent out by Mike, Griff, and Terio.
Bike MS- The team won the best jersey award, and has raised almost $21,000 for the cause.
RRR- Pam Thomas is willing to work on a jersey or t shirt design for this years ride.
Membership- 420 members at this point, compared to 454 last year. We did not sign up anyone at Bike Lexington this year.
July 7 will be our night at the Legends game.
Advocacy- None
Social- Snacks and drinks will be provided for the Jack Jouett ride on July 4.
Education- Workshop was well attended. The program was very educational, and the format was well conceived.
The 5th annual Ride of Silence was led by Keith, he suggested that the ride be promoted and run differently next year.
Philanthropic- Malcolm presented 3 requests for funds from various places, none were approved.
Head coverings- Peggy suggested some of the head coverings be distributed to other people to be sold at rides or events. Hats were distributed to members at the meeting who wanted to sell them.
New Business-
So far 150 head coverings have been sold, we have about 250 left.
Meeting adjourned 9:15pm.
Next meeting to be held on 7/8/09 at Peggy’s house.
