Executive Committee and Board of Directors Meeting Minutes: September 10, 2008, 7:00 PM at Peggy Littrell’s house.
Board of Directors and Committee Coordinators:
Present: Peggy Littrell, Dwayne Edwards, Sandra and Ken Duff, Tom and Bonnie Walters. Other members attending included Cliff and Sherry Cantrell, and John McBride.
Proceedings: ---Meeting called to order @ 7:10 PM by Peggy LittrellPeggy opened the meeting with a special welcome back to Bill Fortune! She also informed the group some interesting information. The League of American Cyclist Directory has Kentucky listed 29th overall in the state rankings.
---Minutes: The minutes of the August 13, 2008 were read by Bonnie Walters. Corrections were noted and final approval was given. The minutes will be posted to the web site.
---Treasurer’s Report: Sandi Duff reported that the bank balance was approximately the same as the previous month.
---Racing: Troy Hern has agreed to chair the racing committee. Melissa Bellew and Benna Halecky will assist, especially with female riders. His proposed outline was presented to the group and accepted. An announcement will be placed on the home page at the web site. It was felt important to continue the team’s function as an entry lever for those cyclists interested in racing.
---Education: Griffe Baute has indicated via e-mail that he is continuing to work on scheduling the “newbe” rides.
---Ride/touring: Tom Walters stated that the season has been great! We continue to have good turn out for the rides and have had plenty of rides and leaders.
About 80 people rode in the memorial ride for Jack Geisler and the Labor Day Picnic drew 70 to 80 riders.
--Website: Nedim Slijepcevic was not able to be present but has the advertising up on the site.
---Nominating Committee: We must have a chair by October in order to get the ballots out by November.
---Events: Horsey Hundred: The time line was discussed for the 2009 HH. Mindy Taylor has most of the information available on a jump drive. The steering committee will have an organizational meeting next month. Bike Lexington is still waiting for a final approval from Mayor Newberry. Georgetown College will be contacted to check their status since there have been some changes there.
The Red River Rally: Final details are being worked out for the event on October 11th and 12th. Bill Fortune will be coordinating everything except the actual event as he is out of town at that time. Still Water Bar-b-que is doing the food both days.Health Fair at Trane: Mike Begley reported to Peggy that he felt there was good interest in the BCC booth being at Trane.
---Membership: Ken Duff says we now have over 500 members with the addition of the new-timers. We continue to look for sponsors. New membership forms need to be placed in the bike shops by late winter before the spring season.
---Social: Dwayne Edwards said he will have the 2009 social calendar ready at the first of the year. The Halloween Ride was discussed and will be arranged. See the web site for final information.
---Old Business:
Dwayne reported the template for the new brochure is being developed
The Health Fair at Trane: Mike Begley reported to Peggy that he felt there was good interest in the BCC booth at Trane,
The Shakertown Ride: The BCC agreed to support registration fees for up to 10 people. So far 3 have signed up.
Louisville Ironman: All went very well with a large BCC contingent. Rider wearing BCC jerseys accompanied the leading runners during that portion of the race. It was very exciting and a big success.
Charity: Dwayne reported the Christmas bikes give away is in process with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Pedal Power and Pedal the Planet will be doing 20 bikes each. Mike’s Hike and Bike shop in Richmond will do 13. We have been able to hold down costs but most of the new models have increased. Dwayne will verify the date of the rodeo. Also, the first trike bike for Shriners has been ordered. Malcolm Barrett is coordinating this. We will need to know the final cost so it can be paid in full.
---New Business:
New BCC banner: It was suggested that we have a new banner to better represent the club. Several ideas were discussed and will be reviewed.
Health Fair: The National College will be having a heath fair Thursday, Oct 16th from 9:30AM to 6:00 PM. Peggy, Tom, and Bill have volunteered to man the booth.
---Next Meeting: October 8 at 7:00 PM at the Firehouse Subs.
