Board of Directors and Committee Coordinators:
Present: Peggy Littrell, Dwayne Edwards, Sandra and Ken Duff, Tom and Bonnie Walters, Griffe Baute. Other members attending included Sherry and Cliff Cantrell, Dave and Sherry Brown, Jerrell Goodpaster, Bryan Pryor, Roman Anderlich, and John and Leanne McBride. Proceedings: ---Meeting called to order @ 7:00 PM by Peggy Littrell
---Presentation: The group listened to a presentation from the Mayor’s Task Force regarding proposed changes to Bike Lexington for 2009. The Bike Lexington is actually a month long event during May, coinciding with “National Bike Awareness Month.” They want to have the weekend of Memorial Day to present a premier biking event in conjunction with the Horsey Hundred. Several events are planned from time trials, a criteriom, racing, the family fun ride and possibly a mountain bike race at Veteran’s Park. This would be a cross promotion of both the Horsey Hundred and Lexington with benefits to both groups. All is still in the planning stages and someone from the Horsey Hundred, such as the coordinator, and/or other BCC member would be a part of the Task Force.
A general discussion followed the presentation with the suggestion that this be presented at a general meeting to be held with the Bethel ride on Saturday, July 19, 2008.
---Minutes of June, 2008: No minutes available at this time. Bill Fortune took them and is to forward them. He is away biking across the USA!
---Treasurer’s Report: Sandra Duff reported $69,000 in the bank at this time. At least $24,000 to 25,000 is needed to carry through to 2009 as a base for Horsey Hundred initial expenses. The Horsey Hundred generated $111,000 in income with $50,623 in expenses. A few minor expenses remain outstanding.
---Racing: Repeated attempts to reach Christopher Rowe have been unsuccessful and the status of the race team is unknown at this time.
---Education: Griffe Baute reported he has been conducting novice rides on Thursday nights from the Frankfort bike shop with good participation. He has not been able to do any clinics. A safety video is still not available. A suggestion was made that the Mayor’s Task Force could produce one.
---Ride/touring, Jersey sales: Tom Walters is pleased with the ride schedule. We now even have a ride in the Red River area. Jerrell Goodpaster is leading one from True North Outfitters. The Frankfort rides are going well. He has planned an overnight ride to Berea on August 8th. Jersey sales seem to be doing fine and there is a need to replenish the more popular sizes. Restocking would cost about $7,000. The original cost was about $16,000 with current sales being $8,800+. Tom will check the cost of a minimum order. There is a deadline for saving the cost of restocking fees.
--Website: Nedim is out of town and there is no report.
---Nominating Committee: We still need a committee chair in order to get the slate of officers for 2009.
---Red River Rally: The date is the second weekend in October, the 11th and 12th. The shelter is already reserved. The Rally needs to be put on the ride calendar. Christopher Rowe has the brochure. Bill Fortune has agreed to head it up again this year. The food will be the same as well. Shirts need to be ordered. Peggy has some possible designs. Tourism needs to be contacted and road markings arranged. A suggestion was made for a 70 to 100 mile route to be developed.
---Membership: Ken Duff reported we are pushing 500 members after the success of the recent drive. We can solicit venders for discounts in order to build incentives to join the club. It would also help to have a service directory available to members.
---Social Committee: The Jack Jouette ride was moved to July 12th after the rain out on the 4th.
---Miscellaneous: John McBride reported Beef O’ Brady’s is willing to partner with the club to sponsor the MS 150 team. They will help to pay for jerseys and bike shorts. The design would incorporate both logos. They would also help team members with various fund raiser events. John asked the members to assist in increasing team members since this year there were only four which was way down from years past.
---Next Meeting: A general meeting will be held with the Bethel ride on July 19th. August 13th, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the board room of Shriner’s Hospital. ---The Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM
