2008 Ashland to Lexington Relay Report

E-mail Print
Sample ImageThe relay went off very well with no accidents and three riders who rode the entire length from Ashland to Lexington, Melissa Bellew, Jeff Taylor and Dan Marsh. Just a few drops of rain fell on the riders; this was remarkable since severe thunderstorms, hail and 60 hour winds were predicted. The riders fought a strong wind out of the south west all of the way; frequent remark was "I would rather do hills than wind."

The Ashland Bicycle Club, ACE, hosted a delicious potluck Friday night and Mt. Sterling-Montgomery Co Railtrail Group grilled hamburgers for us late Saturday afternoon. Thanks to all the riders and support people that made it possible. There are many people to thank and many stories to tell but right now I am too tired to even begin. It was a long day but a good day.

Riders: please email your mileage and the distance you rode. Because of the stormy and windy weather many people started and stopped in difference places than they indicated on their waivers.

Let me know your impressions of the relay; I will be writing about the relay for the next edition of TrailTime and really want your input and impressions.

KRTC was given gift certificates from some of the bike stores, send in who you think really helped to make the relay the success that it was so we can especially thanks those riders and/or support people.
